Story
based on CLAUDE MONET’s “Ladies in the
garden”. (1866)
By:
Nerea, Mónica and Jorgelina
In a far, far away countryside, during the 19th c., three women who were
very different in personalities and ages were living together because their
parents had died in a cart accident 5 years before. Besides being sisters, they
were close friends and used to spend time together, having long chats, drinking
tea and eating biscuits in the afternoons.
One day, during one of those conversations…
ELIZABERTH: (talked anxiously) “You
are not going to believe what happened to me during my painting classes last
month”.
Her sisters looked at her with curiosity and encouraged her to keep on
talking.
ELIZABETH said: “I met him,
imagine…, I was there, engaged in my activities when he came out of the blue. I
stared at him. I couldn´t even move a muscle till he talked to me”.
MARY asked: “But, did you even talk
to him?”
ELIZABETH: “Yes, of course, but
after a couple of minutes”.
JANE: “What is he
like?”
ELIZABETH: “He is intelligent,
self-confident, with strong personality but at the same time he is sensitive,
he painted me a rose and for that moment onwards we met every single Monday in
the square garden”.
MARY: “Oh! So gentlemanly he was!” “I
have to confess something but it embarrasses me…”
BOTH SISTERS: “Come on! You can tell
us everything”.
JANE: “What’s more, you have to tell
us”.
MARY: “Well… Three weeks ago when I
went to the library to return my novels I collided with a handsome and polite
man in the entrance. My books fell all over the floor and I fell for him when
he by chance touched my hand”. “He has the brightest eyes I’ve ever seen”. “He
is good looking, tall and thin.” “He was well dressed and shared”.
ELIZABETH: “Have you met him again?”
MARY: “Yes, the following weeks when
I returned to the library hoping to see him again, the librarian gave me a
sheet of paper with a meeting date in the garden and a beautiful red rose”.
The silence filled the room for a moment. Jane looked absent-minded.
ELIZABETH: “What happened to you?”
MARY: “You look worried and
unhappy.” “We are having a great moment! Aren’t you?”
JANE: “I’ve met a man too and he is similar to
the one that you’ve described, he is nice and kind with me and he always gives
me a rose whenever we met in the garden on Fridays”.
ELIZABETH: “No way!”
JANE: “He is the same guy who is
trying to win our hearts. I don’t believe in coincidences (guessing)”. “All of
us have received a rose as a present and we have dated him in the same place
but at different times”.
MARY: “My beloved is Charles”.
JANE and ELIZABETH: “Mine too!!”
JANE: “We need to do something”.
They wrote him a letter asking him to met Jane in the garden as usual.
When he arrived the other two sisters appeared.

JANE: (ironically) “Why are you hiding
behind the flowers?”
Charles tried to get away but the whole town was there and he had to
face up to the problem.
Since that moment on, nobody knows what has happened to him.
“THE MORE
WE WANT, THE LESS WE HAVE”.

Charles thought about that many times, when finally he decided to be alone. “I’ll be alone; you are three beautiful and kind women who can meet another man.” And that was the last time they saw him.
Notwithstanding that Jane, Mary and Elizabeth were very disappointed; they considered that decision the most appropriate. So, they continued with their lives.
Fortunately, after a couple of years, Jane got married with a hard- working man who loved her; Elizabeth couldn´t meet another man but she decided to travel around the world, in order to know about different cultures. And… the young Mary started a relationship with an attractive man, called John. They continued having chats in the afternoons, and they always remembered Charles as a funny experience.
Good end Natalia!

ResponderEliminarThey decided that one of the sisters would dress up and pretend to be a different person, she would pretend to be a pretty and charming lady from the high society; and of course she would try to flirt with Charles. Their goal was to catch the womanizer and make him suffer in public.
The women contacted another girls that were being played by this fake lover and told them about their heartless plan.
A week later Mary, pretending to be another woman, finally met Charles at the town square; and when this joker appeared with some flowers in his hand, the large group of tricked women showed up and, after blocking every single way out they started throwing rotten meat at this petticoat chaser. The whole town laughed at him as he finally escaped.
Charles was humiliated for many many years, until he eventually left the town. He actually learnt how NOT to treat a woman!
good job Emiliano
EliminarHi sweets! This is my version of this wonderful story!
ResponderEliminarThe chateau in which Madame Elizabeth Reyne lived was located in a peaceful countryside in the outskirts of Paris. There, she spent every Thursday afternoon sipping sweet cups of tea served in that delicate Meissen porcelain that had once belonged to her now departed mother. This afternoon she was expecting her two beloved sisters to join her for tea. When they had arrived, they began chatting until Elizabeth decided she had to tell her sisters something:
ELIZABETH: (talked anxiously) “You are not going to believe what happened to me during my painting classes last month”.
Her sisters looked at her with curiosity and encouraged her to keep on talking.
ELIZABETH said: “I met a wonderful man, imagine…, I was there, engaged in my activities when he came out of the blue. I stared at him. I couldn´t even move a muscle till he talked to me”.
MARY: “But, did you even talk to him?”
ELIZABETH: “Yes, of course, but after a couple of minutes”.
JANE: “What is he like?”
ELIZABETH: “He is intelligent, self-confident, with a strong personality but at the same time he is sensitive. Can you believe he painted me a rose? Oh, girls from that moment onwards I fell for him. Now, we meet every single Monday in the square garden”.
MARY: “Oh! So gentlemanly he was!” “I also have to confess something but it embarrasses me…”
BOTH SISTERS: “Come on! You can tell us everything”.
MARY: “Well… Three weeks ago when I went to the library to return my novels I collided with a handsome and polite man in the entrance. My books fell all over the floor and I fell for him when he by chance touched my hand”. “He has the brightest eyes I’ve ever seen”. “He is good looking, tall and thin”.
ELIZABETH: “Have you met him again?”
MARY: “Yes, the following weeks when I returned to the library hoping to see him again, the librarian gave me a sheet of paper with a meeting date in the garden and a beautiful red rose”.
The silence filled the room for a moment. Jane looked absent-minded.
JANE: “Oh dear!”
ELIZABETH: “What’s the matter with you, darling? You suddenly look pale and worried!”
JANE: “I’ve met a man too, and he is similar to the one that you’ve described. But it can´t be possible…”
Suddenly there was a knock on the front door. Elizabeth rushed in order to see who was knocking. There was a mysterious young man with a casket. Inside of it were jewels and a note which said: “I shall meet you at the square garden tomorrow. Your true love”. Elizabeth was shocked. She showed the beautiful charm bracelet to her sisters.
JANE: “Oh, dear Elizabeth. I have seen this bracelet before!”
ELIZABETH: “What do you mean? Where have you seen it?”
JANE: “It belongs to one of the most renowned French jewelers. It was stolen some months ago from his residence here in Paris”.
Elizabeth was clearly in a dilemma. Would she confront this man? Or would she turn him in and move on with her life? After all, he had lied to herself and her sisters. Finally, she decided she would make him suffer, but in a way he wouldn`t be able to forget.
The following day she dressed up in her best clothes, and slowly made her way to the square garden; which was situated in the middle of the city. There, she awaited, until he showed up. He greeted Elizabeth as usual, but he was holding a bunch of red roses. Suddenly, Jane and Mary popped out of behind some trees.
JANE: (ironically) “Why are you hiding behind the flowers?”
The man tried to get away but the whole town was there, and even the authorities, and he had to face up to the problem.
ELIZABETH: (screaming loudly) “This man has presented me with a very precious piece of jewelry, which I believe was stolen several months ago”.
The whole town was in shock, and suddenly people started murmuring horrible things. A police man reached toward Elizabeth and grabbed the bracelet. He examined it for a few seconds, and then ordered the man to be detained and charged on theft and deceitfulness. He spent many years in jail and once he was released, he left the town.
Good job. Way to go
